Week of May 11th – ALL AR tests should have been taken by now. Wed. is the LAST DAY to take one.
Students will continue to work on the 8th grade book project for St. Jude. All books are due Tuesday with the exception of 4th period. Theirs must be turned in on Wed.
ALL STUDENTS NEED TO RETURN THE GRAMMAR BOOK THAT WAS SENT HOME AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT BRING IT BACK ON TUESDAY WILL HAVE SILENT LUNCH UNTIL IT IS RETURNED
Fines have been assessed for damaged literature and grammar books. Students have been notified if they owe money. All money should be paid by Wed., May 13th.
A few students still have not paid the $1.50 for the book project; it was due by April 20th.

Mon. – HW grammar workbook pp. 163-64; narrative historical poem due 4/27: patterened after “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Longfellow, p. 629 lit. bk.; minimum of 8 stanzas and 100 lines; stanzas must have different numbers of line.
Each poem must contain highlighted and labels of the following poetic techniques:

3. simile or metaphor
4. symbolism
5. personification
6. mood
7. imagery (description that appeals to the senses)

NO SPECIFIC HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS THIS WEEK WHILE STUDENTS ARE TAKING THE TCAP TESTS. That makes this week a really good time to read for AR!
Bring $1.50 for blank books. Alone or with a partner you will write and illustrate the book, which will be donated to St. Jude to be given to one of their patients. If you want to create the book by yourself, bring $3.
Mon. 4/13 AR TESTS DUE FOR 1st and 4th periods. Then students need to read Going Solo for the next AR test.
Vocabulary words for lessons 21-22 go home today; spelling and definition tests are scheduled for April 23-24.
ALL week long students should get a good night’s sleep, have a healthy breakfast and arrive at school at 7:45 if the student is a car-rider
Avoid any arguments or confrontations just before school. Mental attitude is very important
Bring 2 #2 sharpened pencils with good erasers.

- MANY students were NOT prepared to take their AR tests today and some had not even selected a book or had theirs approved by me. THIS IS A TEST GRADE! Zeroes do not average in very well!
- Classwork – G.U.M., journal, 4th period: TOOK AR TESTS ON THE COMPUTER or turned in written reports. There were a few glitches on the AR program and a few students were unable to take their tests. They must write a written report tonight and turn it in tomorrow. Anything else is minus 10 points per day; 1st period: the AR program was not working and I allowed class time for students to work on their written reports. There is no homework so the reports could be finished. During afternoon homeroom they were told they could take the cpmputer tests tomorrow.
- Homework – Voc. 9 review sheet & crossword puzzle; complete AR report, if needed.Voc. 9 test is Thursday this week because our field trip to see the musical version of Flowers for Algernon is on Friday
- Classwork: GUM, importance of critical reading AND THINKING! Lit. book p. 82; Holt Reader p.21-34
- HOMEWORK: Grammar workbook pp. 11-12; Holt Reader p. 36

- Give a 2-3 minute speech for your candidate, live or videoed, using four different types of propaganda.
- Find , highlight and label 20 examples (6 different types) of propaganda on the Internet, in brochures or campaign literature or newspaper and magazine articles about the presidential campaign.
- Homework coupons or extra credit points available by playing in the Collierville Literacy Council Scrabble FUNdraiser on Nov. 9.
- Attend or participate in the COFFEE HOUSE for teens at the Collierville Burch Library on Nov. 5 from 6-7:30.
- Bring in clippings or books that use vocabulary words or grammar or punctuation errors.

- Attend or participate in the COFFEE HOUSE for teens at the Collierville Burch Library on Nov. 5 from 6-7:30. You must be there a minimum of 15 minutes. I would love for you to be there the entire time, but I understand there may be conflicts.
- Bring in clippings or books that use vocabulary words or grammar or punctuation errors. Earn coupons or tickets.
